EDDM Postcard Printing

Oversized postcards sized for Every Door Direct Mail, bundled and ready to take to the post office. From $39.49, printed in North Dallas.

What EDDM actually is

Every Door Direct Mail is a USPS program that lets you mail to every address on a carrier route without a mailing list and without individual addresses. You choose the routes on a map, print the cards, bundle them, and drop them at the post office with the paperwork.

The appeal is that it is cheap per household and you do not need anybody's data. The limitation is that it is untargeted — everyone on the route gets one, whether or not they are your customer. That makes it excellent for anything genuinely local and geographic: a restaurant opening, a new dental practice, a lawn service, a gym, a church, a grocery promotion. It makes it poor for a narrow B2B offer.

If you have an actual list of customers and want to mail those specific people, you want standard postcards and a mail merge instead. EDDM is for saturating a neighborhood.

The sizes are not arbitrary

EDDM has size rules, and the three sizes here exist to sit inside them. This is the main reason to order an EDDM postcard rather than a regular one — a card that is the wrong size does not qualify, and you find that out at the counter.

9" x 6.5"The compact EDDM card. Cheapest per piece and still substantially larger than a standard postcard, so it stands out in a day's mail.
11" x 6.25"Long format. The extra width suits a coupon strip down one end, a map, or a before-and-after pair of images.
11" x 8.5"The large one. Effectively a flyer that arrives as mail — room for a full menu, a service list or several offers. The one to use when the card has to do more than make a single point.

Bundling: let us do it

USPS requires EDDM mail to arrive banded in bundles with a facing slip on each. You can order the cards loose and band them yourself, or have them come bundled in fifties or hundreds.

Bundling by hand is genuinely tedious at any real volume — five thousand cards is a hundred bundles, and they have to be counted accurately because the paperwork depends on it. If you are running more than a few hundred pieces, take the bundling.

Choose bundles of 100 for large drops and 50 when the routes are small or you are splitting across several people doing the drop-off.

What we do and what you do. We print, and we bundle. Selecting the routes on the USPS map, completing the paperwork and taking the bundles to the post office is your side of it — and it is genuinely straightforward once you have done it once. Tell us the routes you have chosen and we will make sure the counts match what you will be declaring.

Designing a card that survives the walk to the bin

An EDDM card is sorted standing at a kitchen counter with a stack of mail, in about a second and a half. It is competing with a utility bill and two other postcards.

The offer is the headline. Not your name, not "quality service since 1998". The reason to keep it. Put it large enough to read while the card is still in the pile.

Local beats generic. Name the neighborhood. A card that says the street or the area outperforms one that says "North Dallas", because it reads as being about them rather than about you.

Leave the address panel clear. EDDM requires an indicia area and addressing space on one side. We will lay it out, but do not design over it and then ask us to move things.

Give it a deadline. An offer without an end date gets put in a drawer. One with a date either gets used or thrown away, and both are better than a drawer.

Use a heavier stock. A flimsy oversized card arrives bent. The range here starts at 80 lb cardstock and runs to 130 lb — for a piece that has to survive sorting machinery and a mail carrier's bag, heavier is money well spent.

Who uses EDDM around North Dallas

New restaurants and stores announcing an opening to the surrounding blocks. Dental, medical and veterinary practices introducing themselves to a catchment. Lawn care, pest control, roofing and HVAC covering a neighborhood ahead of a season. Gyms and studios in January. Churches for services and community events. Grocery and retail with weekly offers. Realtors farming a specific area.

The common thread is a business whose customers are defined by where they live. If that is you, EDDM is one of the cheapest ways to reach all of them at once.

Questions we get asked

Do you handle the mailing?

We print and bundle. Route selection, the USPS paperwork and the drop-off are yours. Tell us the routes you have picked and we will match the counts so the paperwork adds up.

How many routes should I start with?

Fewer than you are tempted to. One or two routes done twice beats six routes done once — direct mail works on repetition, and a single drop into a large area usually disappoints. Start small, measure, then widen.

How do I know if it worked?

Put something on the card that can only come from the card — a code, a specific offer, a dedicated phone number or landing page. Without that you are guessing, and guessing is why people conclude direct mail does not work.

Can I mail to a list instead?

Then you want postcards with addressing rather than EDDM. Different product, different postage, and better when you know exactly who you are writing to.
