When a letter page should be in color
Color is worth paying for when the reader would miss something without it: photographs, charts where the lines are told apart by color, a logo people recognize, or a page someone is going to judge you by.
That covers sell sheets, one-page flyers handed across a counter, menu inserts, charts in a report, photo pages, and letters on your own branding. A page that gets read once and recycled is usually fine in black and white.
Paper changes how the color looks

Getting the colors you expect
Screens give off light and paper reflects it, so print always looks a little less bright than the screen. Very saturated blues and greens shift the most.
Export images at full size rather than pasting in small web graphics. A picture that looks fine on screen can look soft once it is printed at full page width.

Questions we get asked
Can a document be part color, part black and white?
The calculator sets one option for the whole job. Email us the file and we will quote it with the color pages priced separately, which is usually cheaper.
Which paper is best for photos?
32 lb Premium or one of the card weights. The lighter papers are fine for text and simple charts.
Why do my reds look darker than on screen?
Strong reds and blues lose some brightness on paper. 32 lb Premium keeps them as bright as possible.
