Custom Name Badge Printing

Printed badges from $0.72, with your choice of pin, magnet, clip or lanyard. Seven sizes, printed at our North Dallas shop.

The fastener is the decision

Everything else is straightforward. This is the part that goes wrong.

MagneticHolds through the fabric with no hole. This is what you want for staff who wear their own clothes, for anything worn on silk or a suit jacket, and for anyone who would otherwise refuse to wear the badge. The most expensive option and usually the right one.
Pin styleThe traditional choice. Cheap, reliable, and it makes a hole. Fine on uniforms, aprons and work shirts, and a genuine problem on a guest's good jacket.
ClipClips to a pocket, a placket or a lapel. No hole, no magnet, and it will come off when someone leans over. Good for a one-day event.
Lanyard — black, red or whiteHangs at chest height and cannot be forgotten once it is on. Best for multi-day conferences and anywhere badges double as access. The drawback is that a lanyard badge spins, so print both sides.
No holderThe printed badge alone. For when you already have holders, or the badges are going into a system you have.
If you are using lanyards, print double sided. A lanyard badge turns around constantly, and a blank reverse means half the time nobody can read the name. It costs little and it is the difference between a badge that works and one that is decoration.

Seven sizes

3" x 2" and 4.1" x 2.7"Conventional badge proportions, worn on a chest. Big enough for a name at a readable size, small enough to be unobtrusive.
3" x 4" and 4" x 3"Larger. Room for name, role, company and a logo without crowding — and the vertical 3" x 4" is the shape most lanyard holders take.
5.5" x 3.5" and 8.5" x 3.7"Event and table sizes. These are less badges than name cards — used at conference tables, panels and training rooms where the name has to be read across a room.

Custom sizes are available, which helps if you are matching badges to holders you already own.

Make the name the biggest thing on it

A name badge exists so somebody can read a name without staring. That means the name should be set considerably larger than feels balanced on screen — readable at conversational distance, which is about four feet, by someone who is not going to lean in.

The company logo is secondary. Everyone at your event already knows where they are. The role or department goes smaller still, under the name.

First names larger than surnames works well for anything social or customer-facing. Full formal names are for conferences and anywhere people are looking each other up afterwards.

Printed names, or blank to write on

Pre-printed looks considerably better, stops anyone misspelling a guest's name, and is the only option if badges also carry a role or a track. Send the list as a spreadsheet rather than a document — it imports cleanly, and it means nobody retypes two hundred names and introduces one typo.

Branded and blank is what you want for walk-in events, open days and anything where the list does not exist in advance. Take a matte stock so a pen works on it — gloss and satin resist ink and smudge.

Plenty of events order both: printed for the known attendees, blanks for the door.

Looking for peel-and-stick badges on a sheet instead? Those are name badge sticker sheets — cheaper, disposable, and right for a single event. The badges on this page are the reusable kind.

Questions we get asked

Which fastener for a conference?

Lanyard, printed both sides. Attendees put it on once in the morning and it stays on, and it survives a jacket coming off at lunch.

Which for permanent staff?

Magnetic. It goes on any garment without a hole, and people will actually wear it every day — which is the only test that matters.

Can you do them in batches as people register?

Tell us what you need and when. A first run from the confirmed list plus a stack of blanks for the door handles most events without a last-minute rush.

How far ahead should I order?

Far enough that a spelling correction is not a crisis. Send the name list a week out, look at the proof properly, and keep a few blanks for the ones you find on the day.
